Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time – September 3, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

What a joy to be welcoming all our new and returning students at the school this week!  As Pastor and spiritual father of St. Pius X, I always feel excited when the rest of the family is back on campus.  One of the exciting new additions to the school during this academic year is the all-day 4-year old Pre-Kindergarten program.  As many of you know, this was a huge project involving endless licensing processes through both the state and the Archdiocese.  We know that for long-term sustainability, a large Pre-K and Kindergarten are key for a school’s continued success and growth.  Therefore, I’m very excited for our school to have this program up and running in the coming weeks.  My heart-felt thanks to everyone who has helped make this laborious and challenging project possible.  Space for the all-day Pre-K will fill up quickly so if you know of any families with 4-year olds looking for something like this for their children, please spread the word about our new, faith-filled and exciting program!

One of the primary reasons I’m so excited about our school and parish’s continued growth is that we have even more opportunities to pass along our faith and in doing so, forming missionary disciples.  For me, this process of forming missionary disciples (people who know Our Lord and are excited to tell others about the amazing things that He has done in their lives), is the primary responsibility that we have as a parish family.  Pope Francis, in his important Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelium Gaudium, makes this abundantly clear,  “In all its activities the parish encourages and trains its members to be evangelizers.  It is a community of communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of constant missionary outreach.  We must admit, though, that the call to review and renew our parishes has not yet sufficed to bring them nearer to people, to make them environments of living communion and participation, and to make them completely mission-oriented.”  One of the keys for understanding the mind and heart of Pope Francis is to see the Church and each of us as missionaries, never just ‘members’ of the Church, but rather as Catholic missionary disciples.  We will continue to offer catechetical and spiritual formation programs during the coming year to help us all along this path.

Queridos Parroquianos,
