Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time – November 12, 2017

Dear Parishioners,

Last weekend I traveled to Pittsburg, PA to attend the annual National Service Committee Council meeting. NSC describes itself as a body of leaders in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal who work together, serving Our Lord in renewing the grace of Pentecost in the life and mission of the Church. I was asked to serve on this national committee and I am both grateful and honored to do so. As a committee, we assist the NSC itself in its mission of promoting and furthering the grace of Pentecost through the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The Charismatic Renewal began in the US in 1967 when roughly 25 college students from Duquesne University attended a retreat at The Ark and The Dove Retreat Center, near Pittsburgh. It was then that they received the gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, a special outpouring of God’s grace through Spirit. The beginnings of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal can be traced back to this historic event. We had a chance last weekend to attend a prayer service at The Ark and the Dove – it truly was a powerful and unforgettable experience for all of us. Catholic Charismatic Renewal, since its origination in 1967, continues to invite all people to experience a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ through the outpouring of the Spirit (an experience known as the Baptism of the Holy Spirit), and the love of Our Father. This experience empowers us for personal holiness, renewed Catholic life, and evangelization. It also helps us to be good stewards of our lives and the resources we have been given in the form of time, talent and treasure. All of these attributes are essential to the life of the Church and her central mission of evangelization.

In many ways, the success of our mission of evangelization depends upon each one of us in terms of our stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure. Without a generous response in all three of these areas on the part of our parish families, we simply could not complete what we have been entrusted with as a parish community. Stewardship, for me, is a way of life in which we acknowledge God as Creator and Giver of all. It involves responsible management of our God-given resources. We are caretakers of all God’s gifts, and gratitude and generosity are the only responses of a faithful steward. As we continue to focus this week upon the stewardship of our treasure, I would urge each member and family of our parish community to prayerfully evaluate our generosity and consider how crucial it is for the mission with which Our Lord has entrusted our parish and school.

Queridos Parroquianos,
